Greenwich, part deux

So, we left off in the Maritime Museum, with some of us (Cole!) taking a rest in between all the absorbing of science and history and culture and fact.  We practically ran through this museum as we had still to make it to the Observatory and back to London in time to eat dinner with Cathryn at her house.
We started off on our hoof up the hill to the Observatory.  It's a pretty steep climb.  But, the view is worth it.

You can't help but think that it's an odd place for a Prime Meridian though.

There are all sorts of geeky scientific things around.  Different clocks, so many sundials, heights above sea level, telescopes and explanations of astronomy, cute kids.

And here they are! Right on the prime meridian.  There was a cool map on the ground as you walked up to the statue to take photos ... all the different longitudes of cities around the world so the kids were able to count how far away they were from Northern Ireland, and from their dad, and from their dogs.

So, that was Greenwich!  Really good day; I learned a lot.  We walked back up to the river and went down into the foot tunnel that goes under the Thames; even though you know that the tunnel has been there for a good few years and is probably pretty safe, it's still a little creepy.  It's so much easier to sit on the train the chunnel and pretend you are not under water.

We wound up our day back at Cathryn and Robert's for dinner and we left with their car, ready for our next great adventure.
